Week 1
05.04.2019 (Week 1)

We were shown some samples of stop motion videos and we were asked to search for our own stop motion videos and find three that we like and explain why exactly.

Below are my chosen three:

The first ever stock motion video I was first drawn to was to was Coldplays, Every tear drop is a waterfall and after watching that video I came across this one. I love this video as it so interactive and how the story line is so clear. I loved how Christ Martin was interacting with the girl and it was interesting to see the creativity in the idea. The video was interesting from start to end. I loved how the ending showed the real drawing.

I like the surrealism in this video, how it was handled so tastefully and so precisely. The colors were so bright and very attractive. It was creative and was fun to watch. The storyline was also nice, a recipe is always fun to watch and when combined with surrealism it makes it more interesting. The work was very smooth and it was very impressive.

I found this stop motion interesting as it was a very unusual and creative storyline. The stop motion was also very smooth and the storyline was also pretty fun. There was not much props used and yet the stop motion was very interesting. It was interesting to see cameras coming to life, it was a very creative idea.

After choosing our favorite stop motions, we were then tasked to provide an idea for our stop motion final project with not more than one paragraph.

Theme of Final: I Dream a Dream

For the final project my idea is to create a stop motion showing, a girl on bed, sleeping and falling into her dream in which she imagines the world being taken over by stuffed animals. As she falls asleep, the scene becomes darker and she dreams her self stuffed animals starts attacking her, as she tries to defend her self however ends up being eaten alive by one of the stuffed animals. I want create surrealism with the use of stuffed animals and possibly weapon such as toy guns they will use to fire at the girl and create fire and smoke to make the video more interesting. In some cases of weapon fire, I want to replace fire by confetti to mix things up a little. She wakes up as soon as she gets eaten.

Week 6
10.05.2019 (Week 6)

This week I worked on my storyboard and editing my storyline and making changes.

Week 7
17.05.2019 (Week 7)

This week I started gathering all the details of the materials I will be needing and started preparations.

Week 8
24.05.2019

This week I finished compiling all the preproduction planning. Below is the production plan.

Week 9
31.05.2019

After consulting the lecturers, I added more into my story board and here is the updated plans.

During this week, I cut most of my assets to be used for the stop motion and did the trial shoot. The character is not complete yet.

Test Shooting

Week 10
07.06.2019

I felt like the story was not good and there was not much excitement so I worked on another storyboard and did a shooting. I wanted to use clay and I felt like it looked interesting and fun to watch and easy to create a storyline for me. Below is my proposal and shooting.

Trial Shooting

Week 11
14.06.2019

After consulting with lecturers, they both said both of my storyboard is good and both will work fine and I need to choose one. However, I was still unsure and therefor did more work on both.

Shooting for Clay Stop Motion "There can only be one"

Week 12
21.06.2019

After the first draft screening and showing both of the videos I had, I decided that I would go with the paper cut as  the lecturers stated that composition wise it seems much better and it has more things in the background I can play with. And if I go with clay I should add more action. So this week, I tried to do my final shooting for paper cut and started working on the final video.

Week 13
 28.06.2019

This week I finished the video for the final stop motion and added the background music as well. I got feedback for sound and got approval from Mr.martin to move on with the video.

Video Final with no Sound

Week 14
05.07.2019

After finishing the video and getting approval from Mr.Martin to move on to sound, I started working on fine tuning sound after after adding all the sfx. After consulting with Mr.Razif and fixing the the sound files and fine tuning, below is my final outcome for the final project stop motion.

FINAL OUTCOME

Reflection: At first, I was unsure of how it would turn out and I was nervous about how I was gonna do this and to come up with a short storyline. As I did more shooting, I realized that consistency is key and while shooting we have to be very careful and mostly lighting and camera stability is very important. It took me alot of shooting to get the final draft, although I feel like my final video does not seem like the best work, I realized that getting a near perfect stop motion is very difficult. After adding sound, I was alot more satisfied with the final outcome. This project taught me alot about post production preparation and production rules and how important it is to follow them to get the best outcome.
