Mockup Making

During class we worked on our book size. We were advised to choose a book size smaller than A4 and bigger than A5 size. We were told to draw our 3 option sizes and eventually to choose which size we are most connected with.

The Sizes I Outlined were:
220 x 160* Chosen One
210 x 165
210 x 160
210 x 180

We then created a mockup of the book by using blank papers and stapling it all together to see how our book would look like, size wise.

This week we worked on getting the text box in our book by using the van de graaf grids. Below is my book size and text box.

After learning about how to get the text area size. We did the text size for our book size on indesign.

Week 4

Grids

For this weeks exercise, we worked on layout. We took 5 spreads of layouts from any book of choosing and determined the margins and layout of those spreads.

FEEDBACKS

Week 1: No feedback.

Week 2: After looking at the content generation of the book, Mr.Vinod said I would have to reduce one chapter but apart from that I am almost there for the content

Week 3: Mr.Vinod Suggested increasing the elements of visual subjects per layout in order to make it more interesting since my art style was line art and less color.

Week 4: With the progress of my visuals, Mr.Vinod asked me to try more abstract layouts since I was having trouble with adding more content and working with the colours.

Week 5:Mr.Vinod said he liked the contrasting yellow against the black in my visuals. However, I still need to increase content and details and make it less empty. The layout needs more work for the placement of the title. Introduction can be made different from other pages. Make it stand out.

REFLECTIONS

EXPERIENCE

Week 1: The class brief and simple, so I feel a bit calm and ready for the upcoming challenges. Mr.Vinod gave examples and the works and this helped me understand what is to be expected. First class was quiet interesting

Week 2: This week we tried to get more interactive in class and Mr.Vinod played music which made me calm and actually work well, although for some reason my hands were shaky and so I had trouble with the exercise.

Week 3: This class was a bit hectic as we were working different things one by one. But it was interesting to see everything work together. Exercises for this module is very hands on and it was interesting to see all the publications details.

Week 4: Visuals for my book were coming along okay but I was having a tough time finalising the colours to use and also the art style. I was not sure if it will work well.

Week 5: I am kinda okay with the visuals for now. Just want to submit. However I really wish I had thought more about the style and how it would work and planned out my book before I started with visuals. Over all I feel very messy this semester. Everything seems all over the place and I am having a tough time grasping on and catching up. I still cant seem to get a hold of everything.

OBSERVATIONS

Week 1: The examples of the books shown had very similar topics and most people had used their experiences and struggle with mental health or their understanding of life and lessons they have learnt.

Week 2: Choosing a book size seemed very hard for me on the spot because I forgot to do a bit of research on how to choose a book size and therefor I was very unsure of what size to go with.

Week 3: Creating hands on work was fun in class as everyone was working on it and class gets a bit interactive and its nice to see everyone working together and everyone getting along better and getting more friendly.

Week 4
:  Todays class was kinda silent, as if everyone was mentally drained. I observed that week by week, my progression has been going down day by day and this is not good for the workload that we have still ahead for the semester.

Week 5
: Finishing my visuals, I can see that although I tried different variations, my work ended up with the direction i set my mind to from the beginning of using just one color, however I did not expect to use yellow, my idea was using red however I thought its good to keep yellow since its a good contrast to black and is not as overwhelming as red.

FINDINGS

Week 1Book publishing is a very interesting work and I am looking forward to doing all the projects and have the final outcome. The work seems a bit scary as I am scared of making one mistake and having it be seen through out the semester

Week 2: Cutting and using pencils and cutters have become kinda difficult for me now that since I have not been doing this for a long long time. I had trouble trouble cutting and staying in the line.

Week 3:  I found myself changing my illustration style so much. The fact that I am not into digital art was showing alot from my illustrations and looking at other peoples work made me feel really bad about my work and this lead to a reduction in my morale however I also got motivated but its sad that I still dont see the changes I expect from myself.

Week 4
: I found myself thinking about the concern I had at the beginning of the semester about my illustrations and I can see it happening. I can see how the illustrations are not working so well.

Week 5
: This semester felt okay at the beginning and at one point everything became too much and now I find myself very exhausted all the time and this is being shown in my work also. I'm scared for my final outcomes.
