While Advanced Typography module comes to an end, relieved as much as I am, I am sad to see it end as well. Although it took a lot in me to get through this module and finish all the work and keep up to schedule and constant second thoughts on my work, I have loved every bit of the work I had to do. As the experience has taught me so much, I wish I could have another module on typography. With all the high expectations from the lecturers and myself, I was not sure I would be able to make it with even a bit of satisfaction. However, here at the end of the semester, I can see myself liking the work that I have done and although I still believe I can do a lot better, the work I have done took so much time and all the guidance from the lecturer have improved my designs greatly. The experience I have had from semester one to this semester on Typography, I can safely say that it has taught me a lot of characteristic a designer should have and this has benefitted all other modules as well. This module has helped me become a better person as well.
OBSERVATION
Throughout this whole journey, I have seen myself grow a lot and I have observed that I now constantly question my choices how Mr.Vinod and Mr.Shamsul would question, which helped me make decisions a lot better and design better. I see myself constantly looking for inspiration and further discovery of typography. The design of the module was better and I observed that I have learned more by doing research for the presentations, rather than having to listen to lectures. Presentations from classmates and their questions made me pay more concentration and learn more. Even though this module was scary at the beginning and when I get stuck, in the end the module has helped me look at not only typography but our surroundings also differently. I find myself looking at different places for inspiration for my designs and the different exercises has contributed to that. As I look through the first semester and compare to the work I have done this semester, I can see the development and it feels good to know I am improving and learning so much.
FINDINGS
Compared to the first module, I found myself enjoying this module a lot more as we were allowed more freedom and exploration. As this was advanced typography Mr.Vinod and Mr.Shamsul did warn us that this module will be a lot harder and most of the work is very independent and exploratory, which was very true. I found out the importance of sticking to our culture and not trying to get inspiration from western designs. Originality comes from our surroundings and this was very important. Typography has helped me find how to make my works more original, which one of the main things I have learned. The module was made more fun by the lecturers, without whom I would have probably found this module a lot more difficult. I can honestly say that Mr.Vinod and Mr.Shamsul has become one of my favorite lecturers as they are very inspirational and I get inspired by their work ethics. Their constant pushing and motivation helped me not give up on making my designs better, so Thank you so much for both lecturers for helping so much. This class has been really great.
